About the Program
In April 2017, Bitcoin was trading around $1,200 per coin, the iPhone 8 was nearing production, and the Revised Uniform Fiduciary Access to Digital Assets Act became law in the State of Ohio. In the intervening years, our relationships with technology have only grown closer, increasing the need for fiduciary access to digital items. This session will provide a review of the baseline powers given to fiduciaries in Ohio under RUFADAA, review some of the cases that have applied those powers over the last few years, and provide practical tips on planning for these assets, with particular emphasis on the unique ownership, control, and estate planning issues and challenges presented by cryptocurrency as it becomes more mainstream.
About the Speaker
David Lenz is the Managing Partner of Schneider Bell, where his practice focuses primarily on planning for and administering wealth transfer for individuals and families, in addition to counseling charitable organizations on various governance and planned giving matters. He was elected as an ACTEC Fellow in November 2022 and is certified by the Ohio State Bar Association as a specialist in Estate Planning, Trust, and Probate Law. David was a part of the OSBA subcommittee that led to the enactment of RUFADAA in 2017. He is also a past chair of the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association’s Estate Planning Institute and Estate Planning Section. Outside of legal work, David recently completed a 6-year term on the national board of directors of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and the Leadership Cleveland Class of 2026. He lives in Mayfield Village with his wife and daughters, and he can often be found distance running around Mayfield and in North Chagrin Reservation.

CFP® – PENDING approval by the CFP® Board.
CLE – PENDING approval by the Ohio Supreme Court.

The meeting cost is $40 for members when paid in advance before noon 09/04/26, $60 for members at the door, $60 for guests, and $240 for a table of six (can be mix of members and non-members - please submit names to admin@epccleveland.org by 09/04/26). If you reserve and are unable to attend, please call the office to cancel by noon 09/04/26 to avoid a no-show reservation billing.
