About the program…
One of the most significant and overlooked benefits of tax-qualified retirement plans is the insulation of plan assets from the claims of creditors. We will review the ins-and-outs of the applicable rules protecting retirement plan and IRA assets. We will also analyze ways to enhance creditor protection for qualified plans and IRAs and to avoid pitfalls that may expose assets to attachment by creditors.

Richard A. Naegele is a shareholder with the law firm of Wickens, Herzer, Panza, Cook & Batista in Avon, Ohio where he oversees the firm's employee benefits practice. His practice focuses primarily on tax-qualified retirement plans and ERISA. He is a Fellow of the American College of Employee Benefits Counsel and a member of the Board of Editorial Advisors of the Journal of Pension Planning and Compliance. He has written more than twenty articles published in national tax and benefits journals and spoken at more than 300 seminars and conferences on employee benefits and tax issues. He served as a Special Master for the U.S. District Court to oversee the operation of a multiemployer pension plan and as a court-appointed plan administrator for the U.S. Bankruptcy Court to handle distress terminations with the PBGC for several underfunded pension plans. He has represented U.S. Bankruptcy Trustees with respect to retirement plan issues on several occasions.
