DESCRIPTION:\n(Reduced parking fees are available on a space-available basis at Ampco Euclid Gateway Garage (740 Euclid Ave, entrances on Euclid & Prospect) to those that enter after11:01 am and exit before 2:29 pm. Guests must present ticket to The City Club for validation.) \n                                                                  \nAbout the program… \nThis ethics and critical thinking skills presentation will revolve around the processes and consequences of unethical behavior and how “seemingly unimportant decisions” can cause so much trouble in our lives. Our speaker will share his life story of prominence as a stockbroker and former Certified Financial Planner®, his involvement in a bribery scheme with the Oklahoma State Treasurer’s Office, his subsequent flight and life as an international fugitive, eventual self-surrender and incarceration in both a foreign jail and US Federal prisons. The group will examine the ethical dilemmas that estate planning professionals face in today’s market including: 8 thinking errors that can wreck a career; fraud: why it happens; defining and developing your own personal code of ethics; the psychology of ethics: why smart people can do such dumb things; doing the right thing: how to balance your pocketbook with your conscience; group think: the traumas and dramas of an “everybody’s doing it” philosophy; how today’s youth perceive ethics; and self-renewal: mastering change and dealing with adversity. During Patrick’s remarks, he will define business ethics, discuss common ethical dilemmas in the industry, discuss why people make the ethical decisions they do, and provide insight on how to define, develop and control your own ethical behavior. \n  \nPatrick Kuhse is an international speaker, trainer and consultant on business ethics and critical thinking skills. His dynamic presentations have entertained, enlightened and inspired over 100,000 participants all over the world. He works with major universities and businesses in the development and education of students and staff on how to recognize ethical dilemmas and implement effective critical thinking skills. Patrick was a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) and Registered Principal for many years, working at many levels in the financial services industry from Registered Representative to Regional Vice President of a major financial services company. He will share his journey from prominence as a successful stockbroker in San Diego to his involvement in a financial fraud scheme, flight from the US to avoid prosecution, life as an international fugitive for four years and his subsequent self-surrender and incarceration for several years in both a foreign jail and U.S. prisons. He has spoken on and conducted “Ethics in Leadership” presentations to rave reviews for such diverse groups as major universities including Harvard and Stanford, civic groups, businesses, international professional associations and law enforcement agencies. Patrick serves as an appointed Ethics Fellow at the University of Florida and Suffolk University. \n  \nJennifer A.
