Elkin is a Partner in the BakerHostetler Washington, DC office. He focuses his practice on advising tax-exempt organizations and other businesses and high net worth families with their charitable and social goals, placing a special emphasis on transactional matters that include charitable investment funds, social enterprises, impact investing and endowment investment programs and policies. His extensive experience with and practical approach to corporate transactions and governance matters are valuable assets to the clients he represents, which include private foundations, trade associations, healthcare organizations, colleges and universities and international development organizations. Matt regularly advises these organizations on the formation of investment funds by both nonprofit and for-profit sponsors, the acquisition and disposition of program-, mission- and impact-related and other investments, joint ventures, sponsored research, mergers and acquisitions, and financing and licensing arrangements. He also counsels boards of directors on fiduciary duties, conflicts of interest, risk oversight, board and committee structures, affiliated entities, internal investigations, board evaluation processes, executive compensation and compliance with other regulatory and governance best practices. In addition, Matt shares his knowledge with students as an Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor of Law at the University of Michigan Law School International Transactions Clinic.\n \nAlexander R. Reid is a Partner in the BakerHostetler Washington, DC office. He has practiced tax law for nearly 20 years and has a broad-based tax practice that includes tax controversy, tax planning and tax transactional matters. He represents taxpayers of all types under audit and at IRS Appeals, and counsels taxpayers seeking administrative guidance from the Internal Revenue Service and United States Department of the Treasury. He also provides advice to clients under investigation and advice regarding legislative tax matters being considered by Congress. Alex also serves as national Team Leader of BakerHostetler’s Tax-Exempt Organizations and Charitable Giving Team. In that role, he works with numerous types of tax-exempt organizations, including colleges and universities, charities, foundations, museums and other non-profits and provides advice regarding planning, structuring, governance, investigations, tax compliance and transactional matters. Alex previously served as legislation counsel to the Joint Committee on Taxation, United States Congress, and as a Fellow at the Office of Tax Policy, United States Department of Treasury.\n \nJessica E.
